چکیده

When viewed at an appropriate scale, a disordered medium can behave as if it is strictly less than three dimensional. As fractals typically have non-integer dimensions, they are natural models for disordered media, and diiusion on fractals can be used to model transport in disordered media. In particular, such diiusion processes can be used to obtain bounds on the fundamental solution to the heat equation on a fractal. In this paper we review the work in this area and describe how bounds on branching processes lead to bounds on heat kernels.

Electronic Transmission Wave Function of Disordered Graphene by Direct Method and Green's Function Method

We describe how to obtain electronic transport properties of disordered graphene, including the tight binding model and nearest neighbor hopping. We present a new method for computing, electronic transport wave function and Greens function of the disordered Graphene. In this method, based on the small rectangular approximation, break up the potential barriers in to small parts. Then using the f...

Recent developments of analysis on fractals

“Fractal” is a word invented by French mathematician B.B. Mandelbrot around 1970s. He claimed that many patterns of Nature, such as clouds, mountains and coastlines are not lines nor circles which are smooth, but are so irregular, fragmented and exhibit an altogether different level of complexity. From this viewpoint, he called the family of those shapes as fractals. Especially, he made special...

Fractals Meet Fractals: Self-Avoiding Random Walks on Percolation Clusters

The scaling behavior of linear polymers in disordered media, modelled by self-avoiding walks (SAWs) on the backbone of percolation clusters in two, three and four dimensions is studied by numerical simulations. We apply the pruned-enriched Rosenbluth chain-growth method (PERM). Our numerical results yield estimates of critical exponents, governing the scaling laws of disorder averages of the co...

Diffusion in Pore Fractals: A Review of Linear Response Models

A major aspect of describing transport in heterogeneous media has been that of relating effective diffusivities to the topological properties of the medium. While such effective transport coefficients may be useful for mass fractals or under steady state conditions, they are not adequate under transient conditions for self-similar pore fractal media. In porous formations without scale, diffusio...

Apparent Pulse Diffusion Due to Disordered Microstructure

Wave propagation in disordered (random) media is the underlying theme. Many types of wave propagation problems can most conveniently be analyzed in this framework. Acoustic waves in the earth's crust and shallow water (or surface gravity) waves are two examples. The interaction of sound waves with the heterogeneities in the earth's crust is important in seismology. The interaction of surface gr...
